Mile 524 - Drive through Tree, CA

Tourists from far and wide! Come and see! Where can you find all the wonders nature has to offer? Highway 101 of course. We were in search of some California Redwoods, and we found a Redwood Circus.

First Stop; Mile 524:

Drive through a Redwood Tree in Legget…it was legit. Now, ladies and gents, this is no normal Redwood tree. This Chandelier Tree is 21 feet in diameter and 315 feet tall! It’s wider than three of me laying down end to end! But what’s really great about it is someone decided that they would drill a car-sized hole in this giant tree. I’m not sure what possesses a person to cut a hole straight through the bottom of the tree. Maybe they only wanted SOME firewood.

We totally recommend this stop. When we were driving up, we said, “how much would you pay to drive through a tree?””Eh, Five Bucks. . .” And five bucks it was. They’ve got it down to a science. It’s an especially nice stop for cooking up some lunch and people watching. It’s almost as fun as people watching at the leaning tower of pisa.

Almost.
